Up for auction is my 1973 Mettco Penton. Bought it on eBay in December 2015 as just a "regular" Penton if there is such a thing. When I got it home and started to look at it closely I found certain details that I could find in no other pictures on the internet. I took it to York 2016 and asked Paul Danik (POG President for 13 years) to look at it and he said "It's a Mettco Penton" which I never heard of. If you're not sure of what that is, think of a Wheelsmith Maico vs. a Maico. WAY SPECIAL. After hours of homework and talking to other Penton guys, I moved this bike to the head of my restoration projects. As you can see from the photos, this bike sat in a barn in Yuciapa, California for 30+ years. Despite all of the dry rot, the bike was remarkably complete. Further history discovery traced the bike to the original owner, a fellow named Mark Biro from SoCal #84K. He raced the bike until it was sold to the second owner. The fellow who sold it to me was the 3rd owner. Now for the restoration. Bike was disassembled and inspected. Frame and swingarm were sandblasted and powder coated. Engine was frozen and showed signs of being in water. Jake Fisher, the legend, handled the rebuild and supply of necessary parts. Cylinder showed a professional porting job but needed a bore and hone job. Any suspect transmission parts were replaced. Motor was fitted with a new PVL ignition. Paint turned out beautifully and all Mettco rivets were replaced. Most of the aluminum was polished by me. Original handlebars were rechromed. New seat foam and cover were installed on a reconditioned seat base. Hubs have all new bearings and seals. New Sun rims and Buchanon SS spokes. new Michelin tires. Bike was completed and shown at the POG display at York 2017 where Mr. Penton graciously signed the bike after inspecting it and approving of the restoration and posed for a picture with Jake Fisher and me. Bike belongs in the possession of a true collector as a rare piece of Penton history. Good luck and bid often. If the bike is not sold it will be at Mecum in Las Vegas in January. $500 non-refundable Paypal deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end and balance due within 7 days. Payment can be Paypal, cash in person, or cashiers check. Bike will not leave my possession until a cashiers check is verified real and funds are securely in my account. Bike has no title, but will be sold with a Bill of Sale. Bike has no warranty express or implied. Shipping is the responsibility of the Buyer. I will assist your shipper with loading or I may deliver the bike in person for a reasonable fee.
