1974 HUSQVARNA 400CR This bike has just undergone a complete "nut-and-bolt" restoration; attention has been paid to every part of the bike; many NOS parts have been used in rebuilding the engine and since restoration the motor has been only started a few times to perfect the jetting and to gently break-in the new piston. This is virtually a brand new 45-year old bike with standard bore barrel and piston, and NOS transmission gears. There are no surprises and no hidden issues; there are no worn gear dogs, no rattling piston, no worn barrel, no bad crank or case bearings, no worn clutch plates--they've all been replaced! I'm not stating that "maybe the pilot jet is just plugged", or "it ran well when stored in the barn 40 years ago" or "doesn't run but has good compression" and, yes, Horatio, you can find such bikes in relatively poorer condition for less on eBay or Craigslist but if you've ever looked into restoring one of these bikes to good running condition (new PowerDynamo ignition, $500-; NOS piston, $250-; rebuilt crank, $400-; single NOS trans gear, $100- to $200-) you know it isn't cheap--again, this is a no surprises bike. What I will tell you is that this bike fires right up, runs like a bat out of hell and shifts like a new Ferarri. To the extent feasible original BUFO bolts were used. Bike has approximately one mile on it since restoration was finalized on February 8 2019 and has never been ridden in the dirt. Listed below are some of the details: Frame was stripped to bare metal, primered and painted with several coats of the correct shade of silver, then several coats of protective clear coat was applied.Akront rims were polished and rebuilt with new Buchanan spokes--front rim uses mini-screws to attach tire without using a rim locknew Dunlop Geomax MX33 tires and new tubescorrect original wide handlebars--just like Steve usednew seat covernew aluminum air cleaner cover aluminum axle spacersnew 48-tooth rear sprocketvery good brake pads new plastic white fenders and number plates; also new are: Magura controls, control cables, chain, new rubber on kickstarter and gear shifter, and new handgripsinstalled Mag swingarm with upgraded roller bearingsforks from 1976 Husky (that provide approximately 1-inch greater travel and better dampening) were completely rebuilt with new seals original "survivor" unrestored fuel tank; tank has few minor chips and dents and wear marks as shown in picturesoriginal CR exhaust pipebike has valid California green sticker tag and ownership papers are in handhave receipts for most items Engine work included:New transmission case bearings and main bearingsall new seals and gasketsnew big and small end crank bearings--crank assembled and balanced by John LeFevre95% of transmission gears are NOS; those that were not NOS were of excellent conditionused upgraded splined countershaft from 1974 250CR Mag 5-speed transmission (16 10 473-01; to get rid of the standard press-on gear-style of countershaft)new Barnett fiber clutch platesstandard bore cylinder (all barrel dimensions checked with dial bore gauge standardized against outside micrometers)--barrel believed to be virtually unused service replacementNOS Mahle standard bore piston (81.42 mm), new pin, ring and clipscompletely rebuilt correct original Bing 54 carburetor 1/36/106new tank stopcocknew PowerDynamo ignitioncorrect 1974 cylinder head with original "shaved" cooling fins-Bike starts with a few (very vigorous) kicks after "tickling" the Bing carb-Caution: this is the original CR exhaust pipe--which tends to be very loud; likely in excess of 112 dB, thus, if bike is to be raced under AHRMA rules a new exhaust (available thru John LeFevre of Vintage Husky) would most likely have to be installed-Bike run on VP101 fuel at 1:32 -Please contact me with any questions; (I specialize in restoring/refurbishing Husky's of the 1970's and race another 1974 400CR--these bikes are very fast and fun to ride)-This bike is 100% AHRMA legal but as noted above a modern exhaust may be necessary and plastic spacers would need to be put into the rear shock springs (available for free at AHRMA events) to keep the inspectors happy as the Mag swingarm provides greater rear wheel travel-Buyer responsible for cost and coordination of shipping the bike but I will gladly assist the shipper; free local pickup-Deposit of $1000- due within 48 hours of close of auction and remainder due within 7 days of close of auction-Paypal payment only unless we agree to other terms prior to end of auction-The bike is also for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time-Thanks for looking and bid with confidence
