How To Ensure A Helmet Fits Properly
Before you get too far along, you may want to check out these tips for ensuring a helmet is going to or does fit properly.
If you're going to be ordering a new helmet, now would be a good time to get a tape measure which can be found at a Wal-Mart or other general purpose store as these work well for obtaining a measurement of a riders head and combined with the helmet sizing charts below, this can bring someone very close to getting the right size helmet on the first try.
Measuring a riders head for a proper helmet size is simple...
- Using a cloth type measuring tape as described above, for the best fittment, you want to measure the circumference around the riders head about ½ to 1 inch above their eyebrows. Really... It's that simple.
- Once the measurement has been obtained and is within 1/8th of an inch, you may want to review the tables below which are specific to the dirt bike helmet being considered to obtain the best fit.
If you're looking at a helmet which is not specified in the table below, just try to do your best to generalize and find a suitable size that corresponds with the measurement taken, as all of these charts are approximates at best but don't worry about that as the helmet manufacturers have done quite an impressive job of tailoring dirt bike helmets to fit a wide and diverse range of head shapes & sizes so it shouldn't be difficult to obtain a good fitting helmet with a simple measurement and review of the more popular helmet manufacturers helmet sizing charts below.
