How To Sell A Dirt Bike For Top Dollar
Including Best Practices That'll Protect You From Any Scams

When it comes time to sell a dirt bike, chances are you'll be dealing with the general public, as doing so is a very popular way of selling a used motorcycle and generally nets you more dollars in your pocket than trading it in at a motorcycle dealership but before you even advertise a motorcycle, there are some things which we'll go over so you'll be enlightened and able to avoid any bullshitters, scammers or thieves while being able to command the highest dollar for the bike being sold.

While there are a lot of good people, the unfortunate fact of the matter is there ARE indeed real, normal looking low life's that blend in among the good that'll show up to your house dressed in moto regalia, yet are deliberately, intentionally and willfully looking for someone to either low ball at best, or plain outright steal from at a later date AFTER TEST RIDING YOUR BIKE and we're gonna help make sure that someone's not you by providing you some insight and red flags to keep an eye out for before they ever even know your address or where the bike is located.

How to Get the Most $$ For Any Used Motorcycle

Obviously we all want to get as much as we can when we sell any dirt bike but if you expect to get top dollar, then before advertising any used motorcycle for sale it should be clean and fully functional. Having to kick it to death or having a dead battery when the buyer shows up will send signals to a potential buyer that something much more serious is underlying so make sure it starts 1st or 2nd kick and / or that the battery is charged.

If it's a vintage or race style motocross or off-road bike, placing it on a motorcycle stand with both wheels elevated will enhance it's appearance and relay a message to any potential buyer that you're a true motorcycle aficionado and know what you're talking about.

How to Sell A Dirt Bike That Doesn't Run

Best Practices To Safely Sell A Dirt Bike To Someone You Don't Know

  • Do NOT publicly advertise your home address or the location of the motorcycle
  • Do NOT allow any test rides without having seen that buyer has the money available
  • Meet them at a location away from your home or where the motorcycle is normally stored such as a local motorcycle dealership parking lot or gas station
  • Talk to any potential buyer on the phone. Don't be afraid to interrogate them with questions as if you were interviewing them for employment
  • Ask them specific questions to determine their credibility before ever mentioning the bike's location.
  • Ask them what they drive
  • Ask them to what kind of bike they had previously or ask them to bring a bike with them
Beware of anyone asking you what times you're at home or work
